Part I

The day began as you might expect... with the morning, the rising of the sun in the pale, dawning light of a summer day...but only briefly.

Never fully in depth was the morning even though the noon and night developed into detail as days wore on. So, the day began hazy, steaming as the summer heat does when it radiates off the pavement and lingers on your skin and boils blood and sweat.

It was like that all day.
The subway station wasn't bustling and the sidewalks remained mostly empty, save for the few souls that needed shaving cream or condoms at the CVS down the street from Maplewood Crest.

He watched them from his apartment. Quietly, just like the the lowly town beneath his window. The day wore on and he walked around his apartment and he talked to Ruby and he watched and he took a drag from a cigarette. He never really liked cigarettes.

A hollow air surrounded and followed Sather. It made him a quiet man, a young man who didn't interact with or immerse himself in the air outside of his own. He was but a shadow of a fleeting thought in many people's minds.

But they knew he was there, his neighbors and the strangers, they knew he was there and whispered of his passings.

So, Sather was noticed and Sather did indeed live in Maplewood Crest, apartment 205 with Ruby. He chose to worship and engage in a state of aloofness, above the rest. Ruby absorbed herself into their lives, their very being.

As the detail of the noon molded into happenings of the night, they heard a transformer blow and the apartment went dark. The electricity and the sun went out together, and then a new day began.
